The most important event of the week is the tension between the US and Israel regarding the ceasefire in the Middle East. Specifically, US President Donald Trump made an unprecedented statement in American history, prohibiting Israel from conducting new strikes on Lebanese territory. This was posted after the announcement of the ten-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which was Iran’s main prerequisite for allowing passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Although this was an isolated incident, it highlights the increasing friction between Washington and Tel Aviv, while Israel’s popularity in the US is historically low.
