Assessing the Weekly News
Week 28 [2026/06/13-2026/06/19]

Every Monday, the CERESE publishes the assessment of the previous week’s news by the Research Trainees:

The most important event of the week is the agreement of the European institutions on the reform of the ETS2. The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union approved the changes to the Emissions Trading System 2, which covers emissions from buildings and road transport. At the center was the strengthening of the Market Stability Reserve, which aims to maintain a balance between the supply and demand of emission allowances, thereby reducing excessive volatility in carbon prices. This development is particularly significant because it helps protect households from potential cost increases, enhances predictability for businesses and investors, and supports the EU’s objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
