Assessing the Weekly News
Week 06 [2026/01/03-2026/01/09]
_
Every Monday, the CERESE publishes the assessment of the previous week’s news by the Research Trainees:
_
The most important event of the week is the protests in Iran, which are part of a wave of opposition against the country’s regime. Those participating in the demonstrations are mainly merchants and students. Causes include economic stagnation and high inflation, the decline in oil prices, and the restriction of individual freedoms. At the same time, the weakening of the so-called “Axis of Resistance”, the collapse of the Assad regime, and missile strikes by the United States and Israel have highlighted Tehran’s inability to achieve its declared objectives. The growing internal tensions may generate a point of instability in an already fragile geopolitical region.
