Week 04 [20241019-20241025]
Every Monday, the CERESE publishes the assessment of the previous week’s news by the Research Trainees:
I like the European funding of zero-emission projects. More specifically, the European Commission has selected 85 innovative net zero projects that will receive €4,8 billion. The applications were submitted in 2023 and the number of chosen proposals increased by 70%, while the total amount of funding reached €12 billion. The selected projects contribute to the objectives of clean tech manufacturing, industrial carbon management, renewable hydrogen, energy-intensive industries, and net-zero mobility. According to planning, these projects will be operational by 2030, reducing emissions by 476 million tons of CO2 equivalent.
I dislike the news of North Korea’s involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Russian President Vladimir Putin denies Pyongyang’s involvement in the war waged by Russia against Ukraine, while according to US sources, North Korea has sent some 3,000 troops to Russia. The United States seems to be particularly cautious since the involvement of third countries in the conflict on Russia’s side also puts Ukraine in a difficult position due to the lack of manpower. Furthermore, through this development, a new axis appears to be created, which encompasses Asian countries with significant power.
