Assessing the Weekly News
Week 12 [2026/02/14-2026/02/20]
_
Every Monday, the CERESE publishes the assessment of the previous week’s news by the Research Trainees:
_
The most important event of the week is the ruling of the US Supreme Court annulling the implementation of the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump on February 20. Specifically, the Court ruled that the President’s use of emergency legislation to impose comprehensive trade measures exceeded the constitutional limits of executive authority. This decision is directly related to the US-EU agreement, which reduced a 15% tariff on European exports, eliminated tariffs on American industrial products, and included significant investments. This ruling is particularly important because it highlights both the limits of unilateral authority and the uncertainty of the international trade environment.
