The most important event of the week is the bombing of Kharg Island in Iran by the US on March 14. The attack was an unprecedented escalation as the US bombed the military infrastructure on the island, which is the hub of Iran’s oil industry. Washington proclaimed that it will most likely target the island again, while Tehran warned that it is preparing a strong response. This attack against Kharg is a serious threat to the continuation of the few oil shipments by Iran after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about fuel prices in the short term.
