The most important event of the week is the imposition of severe US sanctions on the “shadow oil trade” between Iran and China on April 24. Washington aims to economically isolate Tehran amid the ongoing regional conflict and the impasse over the negotiations that were supposed to take place in Pakistan. This development is critical because China’s involvement through trade transforms a regional crisis into a global economic confrontation, threatening energy price stability and international security.
